About Material District – The Epicenter of Material Innovation
Material District is recognized as the premier event for creative professionals seeking innovative and sustainable materials for architecture, interior design, fashion, product design, and visual communication. This year’s edition attracted over 150 exhibitors and featured more than 250 new materials on display. Attendees also had the opportunity to join 50 insightful lectures exploring the latest trends and challenges in sustainable material development and design.
The event’s central theme revolved around sustainability, circular design, and environmental responsibility, perfectly aligning with DeFelt’s mission of creating products that combine aesthetic appeal with environmental consciousness.
DeFelt’s Showcase – Innovation Meets Sustainability
DeFelt was proud to present a groundbreaking project at Material District 2025 – a parametric chair inspired by the architectural style of Frank Gehry. This innovative chair was crafted from over 1,000 recycled PET plastic bottles, transformed into high-density needled felt panels. The design not only reflected architectural sophistication but also underscored DeFelt’s commitment to reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable production methods.
The chair’s unique structure and elegant curves highlighted the creative possibilities of working with recycled PET felt. Visitors were impressed by the combination of artistic design and functional durability – a true testament to how sustainability and creativity can coexist.
In addition, DeFelt presented many innovative solutions, such as felt “Bicolor Twinfelt”®, PET felt Three-color “FeltBlend”®, PET felt in combination with cork “CorkFusion”®, Pet Felt PU membrane applied to felt “FeltFresco”®, Pet Felt PSA “StickyFelt”® with an applied pressure-activated adhesive dots,”Acoustic Marble®”, “Magnetic SoudPanel®”. Additionally, we presented structures made of PET felt creating new construction, ergonomic and aesthetic values.
A Memorable Experience
